Free Library of Philadelphia Introduction

Free Library of Philadelphia Central Branch

Hello Philly Virtual Pythons,

Last week on the PVA weekly update we asked you to read a book. In case you’re stumped about how to get started on that summer reading list, the School District of Philadelphia has provided a list of good ones here.

I’m definitely going to be reading this one:

Bartlett, Allison Hoover.   The Man Who Loved Books Too Much: The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession. Riverhead Books, 2009. This true crime story discloses the world of rare book dealers and the mind of a serial book thief as it follows the detective who track s the mysterious and obsessive culprit.

If you’re like me though, you’re not too excited about dishing out the cash to a bookstore. The good news is the Free Library of Philadelphia – our public library has oodles and oodles of books. They even have some books on ebook!

Call me old fashioned, but I like to feel the paper under my fingers and smell the glue that holds the story together. My favorite library is the central branch on Vine – because it’s big and beautiful. But if you don’t want to trek down there, you can find your local branch here.

Once you’ve got your library card, you can have all the books you want sent to your neighborhood branch and pick them up just around the corner!
I’m so excited to hear what you’re reading this summer – even (especially) if it’s not on the list. Shoot me a note in the comment section below.
