Dear Students: Senior Mixer!
I had the great opportunity to participating in organizing a Senior Mixer requested by the 2015 graduating class. Since we will be graduating soon, the Student Council felt that it was important to arrange an event that will allow us to interact with those we are learning alongside. Though I was a little nervous, I couldn’t help but feel excited to meet my fellow peers. It turned out to be quite a successful experience. The atmosphere of the party was fun, comfortable, and relaxing. Though I knew from the beginning that my initial reservations were foolish, it was a Hawaiian themed party after all! We each had a chance to mingle and form a bigger connection to our virtual school, expanding the boundaries of what learning digitally can enable. All it takes to form a connection with your class is a little participation.
Through this experience, I can say that the staff’s efforts did not go in vain. The students that were able to take part in the mixer were wonderful and spirited. It was nice to see everyone interacting and having a great time. Though I was anxious as I waited to meet some of the people I would be graduating with, I can say that I am looking forward to seeing them again as we all receive our diplomas. It is the small events like these that truly matter, since we will look back on these past experiences fondly with our classmates. It is important to make connections that will last after we transition to different paths in our lives. This way, we can look back on our high school experiences and remember more than just staring at a screen.
Being in a virtual school has a lot of advantages academically, as well as some drawbacks socially. So it was wonderful to interact with them outside of a computer!
