Philly EdTech Meetup

Image                Technology in education is advancing every day, the only limitation being the respective school district’s budget.  Small innovative companies are developing/have developed new ways to engage students with technology; ways familiar with the younger generation.

On December 16th, 2013 a group of education innovators, professors, and even students got together at Venture F0rth thanks to Philly EdTech Meetup and learned of some technological advancements in the education sphere.  Five companies presented their program that they believed would either lower textbook costs, increase student activity, simplify the learning environment or enhance subject understanding.  Presenters at the event included Acclaim, MyK12, FastFig, ArcheMedX, and TuvaLabs.  Each and every program was interesting, unique, and on an online platform.

Acclaim focused on video content and having a discussion around that content with real-time comments.  FastFig is a strictly mathematical and primarily free operation for students to visualize math.  TuvaLabs, an avid fan of data, created a program to help younger students learn about data collection, visualization, and interpretation.  MyK12 helps teachers collect data about their students to better understand them and improve the learning curve.  ArcheMedX was a classroom in itself to cater to medical students.

Needless to say, these companies consist of much more than the simple summary provided herein.  Check out their websites to learn more about them.  Philly Edtech Meetup holds monthly meetups that discuss the innovative nature of technology in education.  Check them out at http://www.meetup.com/PhillyEdTechMeetup/.
